At this moment,
adoption of "fuel cell" is planned for electricity
supply. Fuel cell is an electrical power-generating
device for the next generation, providing electricity
with the reverse reaction of electrolysis of water,
the chemical reaction of hydrogen derived from natural
gas and oxygen in the air.
It enables to attain electricity anywhere with natural
gas and water. It does not produce any NOx that
pollutes the air nor waste that pollutes the water.
With high performance producing less , fuel cell
is regarded as one of the clean power-generating
device of the 21 century.
The power source necessary to MERMAID III is calculated
to be 12V/20A (20W), and the electricity will be
used for the navigation light which is essential
for sailing (installed on top of the mast), ham
radio, PC, and other daily consumption. The internet
communications on PC will be done through satellite
telephones (Inmarsat). If fuel cell cannot be equipped,
solar-power or wind-power will be employed. |
